Lug rescue (27/02/10)

At approximately 3pm today, Saturday 27th February, a 72 year old lone hillwalker suffered chest pains.  The gentleman, near the summit of Lugnaquillia (924m), used his mobile phone to call the emergency services.
 
The Glen of Imaal and Dublin/Wicklow Mountain Rescue Teams arrived quickly on the scene and sent personnel from both Glenmalure and Glen of Imaal to attend the lone hillwalker.  Despite the wintry conditions, the Irish Coastguard helicopter successfully airlifted the man to Tallaght hospital.

Pager Appeal

To alert as many members as possible at the beginning of an incident the team uses the Eirpage paging system as well as mobile phone texting. While mobile phone coverage is excellent in urban and most rural areas, we are still dependant on pagers in the remote mountainous areas to get that important message through. Unfortunately, because of the reduced use of paging in the comercial world, paging receivers are becoming expensive and hard to get. The Team is in urgent need for your unused Motorola MemoExpress Pagers. If you have any sitting around in office drawers etc. they may be of use to us.
